Braided side bun

HEY YA.

So in China I got to teach a class full of girls.

What did I teach them?

How to braid their hair.

I came up with tons of different styles for them to do and I had way too fun doing it.

So back to hair tutorials!

This is a hair style I like to call,

the braided side bun?

sure.

let's go with that.

1. I like to do a deep part for this style so that that braid goes across your head and is more noticeable.

2. Start french braiding where your part starts. I like to get a wide piece.

3. Braid across the top of your head like I did in the picture. Grab big pieces of hair while french braiding so as to make the braid bigger and beautiful!

4. Keep on braiding past your ear and across the back of your head. Your arms will start to cramp up. Get used to it. Make sure you're pulling tight so that it won't sag when you tie it.

5. Braid until you get to other side of your head.

6. Tie a ponytail.

7. This is just my preference, I like to tease before I make a bun. It gives your bun more volume and makes it bigger.

8. Turn that ponytail into a bun. Start swirling it. Pin as you go.

9. Pin all your little flyaways until you get a nice bun.

10. VOILA!

This is my favorite updo to do. It's casual enough to wear on a regular day but you can also wear it to a fancy place if you're dressed fancy enough!

I love french braids. Like it's a true love.

small crown braid tutorial

I love love love braiding my hair.
I love doing full crowns of braids but it's quite time consuming.
So I often do the small crown braid for my hair.

It's really simple but there's just a couple tricks I've picked up with trial and error

1. Start braiding on one side from the very front pieces of your hair. Don't braid it straight forward otherwise it'll make a nice little bump when you pull it back later. Make sure you're pulling your hair back when you braid.
2. & just keep on braiding.
3. & repeat on the other side
4. One trick I've learned is when you're braiding, especially with small braids, when you're done, pull the braid out so it flattens and is also wider. it looks much better when you do this with your braids
5. take one side and pin it just behind your ear (if your hair is longer and it goes past your ear, loop the rest so it goes underneath the initial braid)
6. repeat on the other side, tuck the tail of the braid underneath the other braid.
7. pin pin pin pin, it will fall if you don't!
8. and voila! you've got some beautiful braids.

top knot-ch

As I mentioned in my last post.

I quite enjoy wearing my hair on top of my head like a hipster.

to be honest, I think I've perfected it.

so here is my rendition on how I think the perfect top knot is done.

what you will need: elastic, comb, some normal bobby pins and some long pins.

1. pull your hair on top of your head. just use your fingers so that it looks more casual and less ballerina.

2. grab your comb and lightly rat your ponytail. it gives it extra volume and makes a world of difference.

3. start swirling that bun! I put a normal bobby pin right at the beginning.

4. my secret for the perfect top knot is long bobby pins. buy some of these now. instead of using 10 normal bobby pins, I literally use 3 or 4 of these long ones and the hold so much better.

5. keep swirling your bun around your ponytail and pin your long bobby pins in the back, front and the sides.

6. stick one last normal bobby pin to pin back the end of your ponytail.

7. get your comb and smooth out all the bumps you may have created.

8. voila! you've got a lovely top knot.

perfect for a long day at work or studying at the library.

I know most of you know how to do these but it honestly took me a lot of practice before I finally got the perfect process so I just thought I'd share.

Sock buns seem to be the trend and while those look incredibly adorable on a lot of girls, they just don't work for me.

I have thick and pretty, well actually really, long hair. When I'd do a sock bun, I would look like a clown with a giant bun on my head.

For my hair, a normal bun works better so if you're in the same boat as me, this will work for you.
